5 Ways to Troubleshoot a Slow Connection to BigContacts

If BigContacts feels slow or unresponsive, you're not alone. Since it’s a web-based platform, there can be many factors between your computer and our servers that may affect speed. Let’s help you figure out what’s going on and how to fix it.

Here are five ways to troubleshoot your connection to BigContacts:

1. Check your internet connection

Even if other websites are working fine, BigContacts may feel slower. That’s because most websites are static—you just view the data. But BigContacts constantly uploads and downloads information, which depends on a stable and fast internet connection.

Here’s what to do:

  • Run a speed test using this tool: www.speedtest.net
  • After the test, you can send your results to our support team for review.

2. Test your connection to BigContacts servers

Let’s check how well your computer is talking to our servers.

For Windows users:

Click the Start button and type CMD in the search box.

Open the Command Prompt window.

Type this and press Enter:

ping app.bigcontacts.com

If it works, you’ll see lines that look like this:

Reply from 184.106.29.4: bytes=32 time=XXms TTL=XX

You should see 4 packets sent and 0% packet loss.

If that doesn’t work, type this:

tracert app.bigcontacts.com

This shows each step between your device and our server. If the final IP address isn’t 184.106.29.41, or you see only asterisks (*), your connection isn’t reaching us.

For Mac users:

  1. Open Terminal from the Applications > Utilities folder, or use Spotlight to search for it.
  2. Follow the same steps above for ping and traceroute.

If anything looks off, take a screenshot of the results and email it to support@bigcontacts.com. We’ll help you from there!

3. Test your browser

Sometimes browser add-ons or settings can interfere with how BigContacts loads.

Here’s what to try:

  • Disable browser extensions and plug-ins temporarily.
  • Clear your browser’s cache (see bonus tip below).
  • Try using Mozilla Firefox, which we recommend for the best performance.

If Firefox works fine, but your usual browser doesn’t, that’s a clue that there’s something in your current browser setup slowing things down.

Download Firefox: Get Mozilla Firefox

4. Restart your modem and router

Network hardware can sometimes slow down or block traffic to certain sites.

Here’s how to reset it safely:

  1. Unplug the power cable from your modem and router.
  2. Wait 30 seconds.
  3. Plug the modem back in first, then the router.
  4. Wait until all the lights come on, then try BigContacts again.

Using cable internet? Let your provider know you use https://app.bigcontacts.com so they can whitelist the domain if needed.

5. Test general internet access

Let’s confirm if your connection to the wider internet is working well.

In the Command Prompt or Terminal, type:
ping google.com

You should again see 4 packets received and 0% packet loss.

  • If Google works but BigContacts doesn’t, send us a screenshot of both tests.
  • If neither test works, your internet service provider may be having issues—contact them directly.

Bonus Tip: Clear your browser cache

Sometimes a simple cache clear can speed things up by forcing your browser to reload a fresh version of BigContacts.

Instructions by browser:
