How to insert merge fields in your email templates

When creating a campaign in the Marketing Module, you can personalize your emails by inserting merge fields. Merge fields are the values that you can use to automatically "insert" personalized information that have entered in the contact record. There are a variety of fields that you can use and they are listed below.

Below you will see how and where you can access merge fields as well as a list of the fields that we synchronize between your main BigContacts database and the Marketing Module. This list will show you all the fields that you can use to insert personalized information directly into each email that you send to your contacts.

Step 1 - Choose where to insert the merge field

Get first want to click on your email template in the space where you would like to insert a large field. You will see in the image below where I click on the top of the template to add some initial personalization. You will see there is an option labeled "Personalize" in the toolbar that appears when I click on the space where I want to insert a merge field.

Step 2 - Click on the "Personalize" button in the toolbar

When you do this, you will see a menu open up giving you a number of options.

IMPORTANT NOTE: you will want to pay close attention to the list of fields below that we currently synchronize from your BigContacts database. As it is only these fields that can currently be used to personalize your email templates. 

Step 3 - Choose & insert your merge field

From the list of options you will choose your words feel like clicking on it and you will see this field appear in your email. Please note that you will not want to change/manipulate any aspect of the formatting that you see appear for this merge field or it will probably insert the information for this field.

IMPORTANT NOTE: below is a complete list of fields that currently synchronize from your BigContacts contact records into your marketing module. It is only in these fields that can be used for personalization of your email templates.

  • Last name
  • Email address
  • Contact type
  • Assigned to
  • Address
  • City
  • Postal code
  • Country
  • Date of birth
  • Custom text fields
  • Custom date fields
  • Tags

(We currently do not sync "Contact Groups" or Picklists)
