MailChimp Sync - Powered by Zapier
If you use Mailchimp to run your email marketing campaigns and want to keep your contact data in sync with BigContacts, you can easily use Zapier to do that.
With this integration, you can automatically send new or updated contacts from BigContacts to Mailchimp—and even the other way around—without exporting/importing lists manually.
What You’ll Need
-
A Mailchimp account
-
A BigContacts account
-
A Zapier account (free or paid)
Zapier uses a simple “trigger + action” workflow. You’ll set up Zaps that push contact data from one app to the other based on changes or new entries.
Common Use Cases
You can use the Zapier integration to:
-
Add a new BigContacts contact to a Mailchimp list
-
Automatically update subscriber info in Mailchimp when a contact is edited in BigContacts
-
Sync Mailchimp subscribers into BigContacts as new contacts
-
Trigger workflows based on tags, custom fields, or opt-in status
How to Set Up the Integration
Step 1: Sign in to Zapier
Go to Zapier and log into your account.
Step 2: Create a New Zap
Click on “+ Create Zap”.
Step 3: Set the Trigger
Choose the app where the contact will originate. For example:
-
App: BigContacts
-
Trigger: New Contact or Contact Updated
Connect your BigContacts account when prompted.
Step 4: Set the Action
Choose what should happen in Mailchimp:
-
App: Mailchimp
-
Action: Add/Update Subscriber
-
Select the Mailchimp list where the contact should be added
Connect your Mailchimp account and map the appropriate fields.
Step 5: Customize Field Mapping
You’ll be prompted to map fields like:
-
Email address (required by Mailchimp)
-
First and last name
-
Tags
-
Marketing permissions (optional)
Step 6: Test and Turn On
Run a quick test to confirm the data flows correctly, then turn on your Zap.
Need to Sync in the Other Direction?
Want to bring new Mailchimp subscribers into BigContacts?
Just reverse the setup:
-
Trigger: Mailchimp (e.g., New Subscriber)
-
Action: BigContacts (e.g., Create Contact)
You can set conditions using filters to sync only specific segments or tagged contacts.
Things to Keep in Mind
-
Mailchimp requires email addresses to create a subscriber—ensure the email field is always filled in.
-
Duplicates: Zapier doesn’t automatically merge duplicates. To prevent unwanted duplication, you may want to use a tag or custom field.
-
Sync Direction: Zapier does not automatically support full two-way sync. You’ll need to create one Zap for each direction.
-
Update Limits: Zapier’s polling interval depends on your pricing plan (every 1–15 minutes).
-
Unsubscribes: If a contact unsubscribes from Mailchimp, Zapier does not automatically remove them from BigContacts.
